Householders can access grants from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, the national grant scheme offering funding for installing renewable energy systems. Grant levels vary depending on technology and are up to an overall maximum of £2,500 per household. There are no longer any grants available for PV, wind and hydro because the Feed in Tariff is due to begin in April 2010.
Grants are still available for: solar thermal - max £400, biomass boilers - max £1500, automated pellet stoves - max £600, GSHP - max £1200, and ASHP - max £900.
Please see the website www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk for up to date details or call them on freephone 0800 915 0990.
You must have basic energy efficiency measures in place before installing RE. The Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre can advise on local grants and schemes; call them on the same number as RE4D 0800 512 012.
